Extend DVI cable from 23" Cinema HD Display (Old style) ? Purchased a 5m DVI-D and the screen has transferred over in GREEN !! Please advise

I have a 23" HD Cinema Display (Old Style with ADC adaptor brick). Connections coming from this are DVI (2 small blocks of 9 pins and minus sign) and USB.

I purchased a 5m DVI-D extension cable in order to extend cable to use screen in different room.

Screen went GREEN when I plugged it in? !

Is this the wrong type of cable?

I cannot find anywhere that tells me if I should be buying DVI-D or DVI-I to connect these? .... If it's analogue or digital and analogue?

Or is it the length of the extension cable that is the causing the problem?

The screen works perfectly when used with Apple mini DVI into Macbook. As soon as I insert extension cable between these two sockets, thats when the screen changes to green.

Please can you advise me

Wikipedia says at modest data rates, single-link DVI is good to 15 feet:

The maximum length of DVI cables is not included in the specification since it is dependent on the pixel clock frequency, and hence the video mode's bandwidth requirements (which is a function of resolution and refresh rate). In general, cable lengths up to 4.5 m (15 ft) will work for displays at resolutions of 1,920 × 1,200. This resolution will work even up to 10 m (33 ft) if appropriate cable is used. Cable lengths up to 15 m (50 ft) can be used with displays at resolutions up to 1,280 × 1,024. For longer distances, the use of a DVI booster is recommended to mitigate signal degradation. DVI boosters may use an external power supply.
