how to annotate photos

I'm thinking of using SnagIt to annotate photos in iPhoto with text. Is there a better way? Thanks

It depends on what you want to do with the annotated photo. The screenshot will be of minimal resolution and not very suitable for printing except at the captured size or more likely smaller.

It would be best to use a 3rd party image editor that can handle layers like these below:

Some Image Editors that support layers:

Photoshop Elements 9 for Mac - $79Rainbow Painter - $30
Imagerie - $38
Acorn - $50

Pixelmator - $60

Seashore - Free

Portraits and Prints - Free

GIMP for Mac - Free

Or, depending on the amount of annotation, you could use a watermarking application. Go to MacUpDate.com and search for "watermark" for an list of potential candidates.

Both the editor and watermarking apps can be used from inside iPhoto to annotate the full size photos.
