Delete the appstore preferences file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
You have to quit the appstore first.
Repair permissions from the install disk.
Permissions repaired from SnowLeopard install disc. Restarted MacBook. Deleted Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist.
Error message persists. Still looking for solution. I have never opened App Store before as I had no reason until today. I do have an iTunes account and have no problem with it. Am I not seeing something obvious?
I contine to have error message "Cannot connect to app store". I now can access sign in; enter apple id & password then receive error message.
Re-enter password in sign in area, apple id present & password is absent. Options on menu include "sign out" & "review account".
Review account returns me to error message.
Still looking for solutions. All help appreciated.
It's a known App Store bug.
Reinstall the Mac App Store app from the combo. It includes bug fixes that may help.
If that doesn't reinstall the App Store for you, open you can extract the App Store.app from the v10.6.7 combo .dmg folder using Pacifist
To anyone that's still having problems, it may be because you have Little Snitch 2.4.0 installed. This is a known bug for that version. Try updating to 2.4.2.
I second MemF's suggestion. For the past ten days or so, I could not connect to the App Store or to Software update. I tried everything short of reinstalling Lion.
I had the older version of Little Snitch. MemF, you were right on. Installing 2.4.2 got everything working correctly. This fixed the error message "Cannot connect to app store" and also fixed my Apple Software Update error "unable to connect to internet."
I had the same problem getting on the Mac App store. The problem turned out to be simple. The App Store was a blocked application in my Norton firewall. That shows what a novice I am, but I am suspect that there are other novices out there that are having the same problem.
I went into system preferences / Network / Advanced / Proxies / and turned off secure web proxy. I also turned off use passive FTP mode (PASV). I then clicked OK and Apply.
Good luck everyone!
You were right! Memf
Thanks
I solved this problem just now!
1. quit iTunes or App store.
2. open "little SnitchRules" from status bar.
3. go to "App Store" line and change value from "Deny any connection" to "Allow any connection".
It works for me!
Cheers.
Had the same issue and removing ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist.lockfile solved it for me.
