I just tried to load an "eve-online" test server app -- and it failed saying I did not have
SM3 (shader model 3) support. The nvidea website says I do. I try to download the
drivers they had, and they wont install - error says I am running incompatible equipment.
Any ideas?

The drivers in OS X may not support that shader. Nvidia's online information is not for the 7300 and driver on the Mac and in OS X.
Thanks for response, Kappy. But, that's not quite right. I should have elaborated thusly:
I logged onto nvideas site, and tried to locate drivers for the nvidea geforce 7300 gt. They had drivers
windows, and linux (and a couple others). Frustrating they had nothing for OSX. So, I typed in OSX at
the search window and magically found the OSX drivers that would not otherwise appear. There are a set of
new drivers for OSX10.5.6 and later -- I am on 10.6.7 - so I thought they might be helpful. They downloaded,
and when I tried to execute the installer, the installer gave me th error message that the drivers do not work
on this equipment. So, yes, it appears these drivers ARE for OSX, and I have the right version, but maybe there
is something wrong with the card ID, or something. Now, if there ARE updated drivers for OSX, does apple have them? If so, where are they? if the card is not properly supported by OSX, that is quite another thing.
Is the card supported by apple and OSX? If so, where are the drivers, or fixes, I should download.

As far as I know (and Kappy or anyone else can correct me), there have not been graphics drivers available as a separate download/install for Macs - they have always been available only through Software Update. So, if SU does not offer you any, then there aren't any available. Unlike Windows, Apple has always integrated those within an OS or firmware update.
I'm not sure about Mac Pros though, but believe the SU and/or firmware update theory still applies.
Apple's 7300 is supported by OS X. Nvidia does not make separate drivers for OS X. There are non-Apple versions for many of Nvidias GPUs, but only the specially made Apple versions have the proper boot ROM to boot OS X.
