I am trying to install my new trackpad(touchpad) in place of my old useless wireless mouse. Am not able to pair it up with my imac , is this possible. it is a 2006 imac with a version 10.5.8.

The Apple Magic Trackpad requires OS10.6.5 according to the box.
Minimum Requirements

One reason the trackpad won't work with an earlier OS version is because Apple did not include the much advertised gestures in the system until 10.6.4 or .5. You might be able to return it if someone at the store told you it would work with your model Mac. Or, if your iMac meets the system requirements for Snow Leopard, you can upgrade to it - but, make sure it meets the minimum requirements first. Also check in System Profiler that your Mac does have bluetooth.
Im stuck on the same boat.... but i was waiting for Lion but now I have no idea what to do cause as of now Lion will only be available on the App Store.. 😟
Unfortunately, it looks as though you'll either have to upgrade the hardware or, if your Mac meets the requirements, buy Snow Leopard first - it's only $29.
yes it dose meet all hardware requirements its an early 2008 imac. I have been trying to get SL too but the apple store near my place dose not have it in stock for the last 3 months and I dont think we have an apple online store here in India.
akash; Amazon may be a good source. They currently have retail Snow Leopard for a 24% discount on the UK store. Worth a look anyway.

But im still hoping that after a week or so after the release of lion they will release a DVD version. Its ok even if they charge $60 for it. $30>SL & another $30 for lion or something like that. Fingers crossed 🙂
