Restoring from time machine error 22

I've tried to restore my MacBook pro from my time machine backup about seven times now with the same error. The only error code I can find is "error -22 when restoring /long/file/path.ext to (null)" and it says that for three files in my application folder. I succeeded in restoring once but that wasn't from the newest restore point. So I thought it was working from now on and tried to restore from the newest one again, but that failed and now I can't restore from the old one either. I would post the error log, but I don't have access to a working mac computer to get the file (saved to my backup drive), but I'll post it when I have it.

Has anyone had similar problems?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Just use the free Carbon Copy Cloner with a powered external Firewire/USB Disk Utility > HFS+ Journaled formatted drive equal too or greater than your boot drive.

You can then hold option and boot from it and reverse clone onto your old or new drive or to another drive.

It's as easy as that.

It also can be scheduled to self update. It's good to have two clones in rotation.

TimeMachine is not bootable, is prone to problems etc and as a restore image, it's files are not accessible from another Mac or PC with MacDrive installed.

If you need the file backup software, look at the free SyncTwoFolders for Mac on CNET Downloads.

How will that help restoring from Time Machine?

it's files are not accessible from another Mac

Yes, they are, via the Browse Other Time Machine Disks option. And bothSetup Assistant and Migration Assistant can transfer from another Mac's Time Machine backups.

I managed to get my data back by reinstalling Snow Leopard an using the Migration Assistant. However, it seems the backup I did just before erasing the drive wasn't saved. Or maybe the one time I successfully restored (with error messages, but it worked at least) it deleted the latest backup just because I restored from the second latest backup instead. Looking through the backup drive, it seems the data is indeed lost, but at least I got most of it back.

I'd love to know why it didn't work, but maybe I shouldn't care but just ditch Time Machine. It seems like it's just a false sense of security. Is Carbon Copy Cloner really the way to go?

If anyone is interested, here is the (as far as I can see) relevant part of the log:

EDIT: Is there no better way to post logs? It's impossible to read!
