The remedy is to back up your computer regularly, and not just for the iPhone. You mean there is nothing on your computer that is important to you other than the music on your phone? The iPhone is not a backup device, was never intended to be a backup device, and the manual specifically tells you this.

We are living in the third millennium. Backup options for computers are varied and inexpensive. No one need be without a backup plan. You can back up to an external disk, to DVDs, to another computer on your home or office network, or to cloud storage on the Internet. You can set up backups to be completely automatic.

You are asking Apple to be your babysitter, to anticipate that you have not taken even basic precautions to protect your valuable data.

I thought these forums were to help people not lecture??

Download iphonebrowser search on google it will be the top of the list, install it plug in your phone and navigate to iTunes_Control / music, copy the music folder to your computer. unplug your phone

Add the folder in itunes, set itunes to stop devices syncing automatically, authorise your new computer.

plug the phone into computer, on itunes right click your phone in the left panel and select transfer purchaces

do a back up

your music and apps should now be back in itunes so you can now sync

Yes movies are also stored in those folders too, inside the music folder there are a bunch of other folders "F00 F01" etc

all the music and movies are stored in those, their names have been changed, so you will have to look for movie extensions, if you add the folder to itunes you wont know the file names have been changed, better than losing everything 🙂

What are your old and new computers? If they are both Macs just use the Migration Assistant application that is included with OS X.

If either is not a Mac look in the Music or My Music folder on the old computer. Inside it is an iTunes folder. Just copy the entire iTunes folder to the Music folder on the new computer (over a network, or by copying first to a thumb drive or USB hard drive). Do this with iTunes NOT running on either computer. Once the copy is done launch iTunes on the new computer, then go to the Store menu and choose Authorize. Also on the old computer choose Deauthorize.

Of course, verify that your music is visible on the new computer and that you can play a track, just to verify that the copy was successful.

I've done this and most of my music moved just fine. I wasn't really clear before. I want to be able to sync with my itunes library. I still get the message that I am synced to another computer. I right clicked on my phone label and did a transfer to the new unit and all my apps moved. I did the OS update on the new unit but still had to go to the other computer to replace all my apps and music.

Both units are HP's running Windows 7

You can only sync to one computer. If you change the computer all of the content you want on the phone must be on the new computer. You will get that warning the first time you sync on the new computer, but after that it will become the "official" computer and if all of the content has been moved over you won't lose anything.

Don't forget to move photos, however, if you use the photo app on the iPhone. Photo sync is one way only, from computer to iPhone (except for the Camera Roll, which is from iPhone to computer).

Thank you for the help. Neither of the PC's are Mac's - the primary problem is that I am having trouble with the 1st (original PC) - the HD is not being recognized. I am not able to copy the iTunes folder from one PC to the other.

So right now, all of the Content is still on the Old PC and just the iPod. I will try to re-access the old PC but if it is unsuccessful, I wanted to know what options were available so that I didn't lose all of my app/movie purchases.
