I hooked up my apple tv to my tv using a hdmi splitter. All my devices worked via this. I then registered device and downloaded new software as it told me. Now I cannot get anything to work. My tv is on and does all the set up and such but no picture via setup. It did this once I did the apple tv update
What can I do?

Do you mean a splitters or a switch, a splitters won't work when more than one device is connected, only some switches will work, you may get those that don't to work by switching the Apple TV/TV off and on once you have selected the correct source on the switch.
It is a switch. I even went back to just hooking up my direct tv to the tv and now it is doing the same thing. All of this happened once I updated the apple tv
So it isn't the switch then. try pulling all the cables and trying again after a few moments.
OOps, I didn't correct it. I had disconnected everything, turned of everything, reconnected, changed inputs on tv without any luck

Sorry could you confirm where we are at, you've marked the question as answered, is your problem solved, did you pull all the cables including the power cord and Ethernet cable (if you are using one)
Sorry I am new to this a hit wrong button. I did pull all cables and hdmi cables and turned everything off. still no pictures
You could ensure the HDMI cable is seated properly, try another HDMI cable or try on another TV (just to be sure), but you may need to get a USB to micro USB cable and connect the Apple TV to iTunes and restore it.
