SMC Fan Control

Hi all, I downloaded the smc fan control 2.2.2, and I can't control the fan speeds at all, the fans are stuck on 3600 rpm all the time even when I slide the bar over to the max end, the fans stay at 3600 rpm. I deleted the program but the fans stay on, I can here them running. I could'nt hear the fans before the program. So is there a way to fully delete the fan program and return my Mac to the default fan rpm which I think is 1800 rpm? Or can someone tell me how to use it the right way?

Click on the picture below to read the instructions. It's pretty clear what you need to do.

1: install the program

2: Move the sliders to the left and hit apply

3: Quit and remove the application from your machine.

The settings for smcFanControl don't take effect until you exit the program.

You might have set the fans higher and then deleted the program. 🙂

Download the program again and try again. There has been a case where someone got a buggy download and it left their fans running, might be your case too.

Wow! It still does'nt lower the fans. I even downloaded it again and made a new favorite at 1800 rpm, and it still won't lower the fan speed. Even deleteing the program, and doing the SMC reset does'nt change a thing! I really don't know what to do now. Anyone have sone ideas?

Download iStat Nano or Pro it's a free widget to check the temps and fan speed. If the temps are high ( over 130 degrees F ) then the fans should be high. But if the fan speeds are not changing no matter what and your computer is still under warrenty the easiest fix would be to go to your local apple store.

Go to your System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items

Click on smcFanControl and hit the "-"

It deletes it as a log in item, smcFanControl likely installed a small program someplace and in order to set the fans higher, set a log-in item so that program runs when log-in.

So since we don't know where the program is, you remove the log-in item and the program won't run.

I tried what you said and the program still starts up. All I want is to completey remove this program and return to the default setting. But first I would like to get the fans back to the default setting be for I remove it.

I want to thank everyone for their help, and especially ds store for all the comments and screenshots!

I did remove smc fan control. Went to acconts and login items and removed it there also. So now it's gone. I have one more question, do the fans on my 5 day old MacBookPro15.4" constantly run high enough to hear them? I did'nt notice them running as I was configuring the computer when I got it out of the box. And is there a way to get them back to factory default?
