I have 2 iPhones and an iPad for family members. I use my Apple ID to manage them. How do I assign a game center account to two other family members different than  the one I use to  manage the devices? I'd like to play games against them but we can't all use the same game center ID.

iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.2, iPad

I have the same problem and I cannot find the answer anywhere. Surely this is an issue with many families. Have you figured it out?

I got it to work. Here's what I did. I signed out of my account in game center and created a new game center id in the iphone game center login interface. I also did the same thing on my ipad for our daughter. All three devices still use my apple id for syncing but they use their own game center id's for gaming. I can also sign my doughter out  of game center on my ipad and sign back in with my id when i want to play on the ipad.

    Hope this helps.

This does not work for me. My only two choices are to create a new Apple ID account or to change the game center nickname. When I change the game center nickname on one device, it changes the nickname on all of the devices. What am I doing wrong?

this is somewhat maddening - I have searched many threads but no one seems to have an answer - I have the same problem as Rogue creative - nickname shows up on both phones that are on the same apple id - will keep looking around the web

Dave, you rock! Worked perfectly on my wife's other iPad, even though we have a single "house" account to manage our Apple devices.

We just had some Game Center issues.  Here is how you can create multiple users on the same apple ID.

    Go to Game Center.

If there is a username already visible, tap where the user name is and hit the "X" to the right of it.

    Touch "create new account".

    Go through the prompts.

If the account is for a minor, it will not ask for an email address.  A child will use their nickname along with their password to login.  BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN AND KEEP IN A SAFE PLACE. Apple's Game Center support cannot view minor accounts for some reason!

If the account is for an adult, they will need their own email address.

Finish going through prompts.  Now you each have your own login and password.

Now each user can go to the game they want to play.  They may be prompted to select which user is playing and login.

I am not sure why some of you would have the name change on all devices.  It could be an automatic synching issue when connecting to iTunes or via iCloud.  Check your iTunes preferences.

Hope this will help some of you.

Also, although you each created your own username and password, even with different email addresses for login purposes, apps will still be purchased under the original iTunes account.  If a user wants to make a purchase on their own individual devices, they will be required to enter the password for the iTunes account, not the password for their Game Center account.

I did exactly as you have done, so my son has a Game Center on his ipod with a nickname, and I have my one on my ipad, with different nickname.  We both play Dragonvale and are linked as friends so I can 'visit' his game and he mine.  Both use my Apple ID, which I know because when either of us buy jewels in the game it charges my account and the password I enter is the same.

He logged me out of my Game Center last week on my ipad and logged himself in, but when I went to log myself back in on the ipad it now won't recognise my version of Game Center.

Any ideas how I can get this to work now?  I can still see my version of Dragonvale and if I try logging in as him and amending the Nickname to mine it says it's already in use, so it's still there.

This is driving me crazy, Apple support have not been able to help :-(

@lybryant What did you do to correct this problem? IM having the same issues but no idea how to fix it.

Hi.  I realised that my game Center ID was actually the nickname I had assigned it and so I went to the reset apple ID password put that nickname in and then reset the password. I'm back in and all is ok.  My sons game Center uses my actual apple ID as the login.

You can link multiple game centres to the main apple ID if it's for children, determined I suppose by the date of birth when you create them, so kids can login with their own password and not the main apple ID password.

Incidentally the game in question for me was Dragonvale and I emailed the developer of the app and asked if they could transfer the game to another game Center ID (before I realised how to fix the issue) and they said they could, so that was another option had I not remembered my login.

    Hope this helps.

This sounds like a pretty good idea. Thats the same game Im having problems with. Where did you go to change the apple id password and put in the id?

Thank you, it worked! Saved a lot of tears for my nephew who's also playing Dragonvale. For those who just stumbled to this page in search for solution for the same problem, go to to change the password of the Game Center nickname you wish to recover. Enter the nickname in the Apple ID field and proceed. Then, in case of Dragonvale, run the game and enter the existing nickname and new password.
