Lost ability to easily build photo pages?

With this new update I kind of lost one of my favorite features of iPhoto. Thats the one click web gallery. We are now forced to use the new iWeb application, which just adds a extra step. Also its really slow when its moving the photos over.

If Apple is going to make such changes, it would be nice to have one of their REALLY GOOD tutorials to help make the transition. My mom is 79 and wants to see my family pictures with minimal kinks... they scare her!! Then she gets frustrated and wants me to come over and fix it. I come over and calm her down and try to explain that it is new and still has some kinks to work out.

Steve didn't seem to have any of these problems... hmmmmmm

I agree. It is significantly more complicated to make it all manually. The Homepage editor puts all your pictures in alphabetical order and you have to manually rearrange all of them. How often is your entire trip done in alphabetical order for your captions? Never.

You don't even get all the previous photo page templates in iWeb. I don't want my pictures spread across two different Web sites simply because I upgraded my iPhoto. I want to continue posting my pictures from iPhoto 6 to my own .Mac Homepage.

Okay, now that I've upgraded to iLife '06 and iPhoto 6, it will now take me approximately 30 minutes to use iPhoto, the Finder and Safari to upload a set of 45 pictures to my .Mac Homepage account. This used to take 3 or 4 minutes and only had to use iPhoto. Looks like I'll be reverting back to iPhoto 5 unless Apple allows me to publish directly again.

I agree, although Homepage direct from iPhoto wasn't reliable for me. iWeb does seem more complex and doesn't seem to offer the flexibility (for example, large image size) that Homepage offered before. iWeb's uplaoding and updating functionality seems messed up as well - why does it need to upload the entire site to change text in a page?

I have just realized what Apple have done too, and am bitterly disappointed. I'm thinking of changing back to iPhoto 5, I don't need photocasting or any of that other stuff. I don't like iWeb, it's not a very smart application at all.

I really hope Apple releases an update to iPhoto that brings back homepage functionality, as this new stuff is awful. How the **** am I going to publish new photos to my homepage, I have to publish them to a separate section now... why ???

It doesn't make sense, especially after all the work I have done making my homepage presentable, now they want to move me somewhere else, using an application that wont compress my images so I use up more of my storage and therefore run out of space quicker.

I didn't think Apple was this incompetent, or maybe they just want to screw their users.

Nah, you should use iPhoto 6 for all the changes and storing the photos, then only boot iPhoto 5 when you need to transfer some images to upload to your homepage. I realize it's a long process, but at least it publishes to the correct place and looks better.

You don't need to keep anything in the iPhoto 5 library, and remember to hold down option when starting either app so it knows which library it's meant to start from. Otherwise you'll be converting your photos back and forth.

I tried unsuccessfully to make the homepage service run in iPhoto 6, no such luck 😟

Well, that's too much of a hassle for me. I'd rather pitch iLife '06 all together and go back to iPhoto 5 which works just fine for me. I was looking forward to doing things like making calendars, making some more complex Web pages with my pictures and managing my .Mac Homepage with iWeb. Unfortunately, iWeb doesn't actually allow me to do that. So, my upgrade to iLife '06 will not allow me to do several of the things I purchased it for, so until I hear otherwise, it's going to be taken off my PowerBook.
