Mac mini / Acer monitor issue
Just hooked up new Acer monitor S232HL(1920x1080) to new Mac Mini and it isn't crisp(lil out of focus). Any suggestions how to remedy? Or does the mini not support it?

Generally, I'd try opening up the display preferences (System Preferences -> Hardware -> Displays) and just make sure it's displaying at the maximum resolution.
I have this same problem! Mine is also not showing darks very well, but i think the contrast or something is to high. But I have messed with the monitor settings and i think the problem is the settings in my MacMini (2010 loaded with memory) Due to the fact that im tethered via a HDMI cable, i don't think my mac can detect this monitor. Should i pay a visit to the local fle market next weekend to secure a old fashion parallel port plug(i already have a hdmi pparallel(or serial i forgot the correct name, but the plug with the two little screws that hold it in place, old fashion crt monitor plug) and connect that way? Would by chance my mac detect this monitor correctly and apply the correct settings? Also when playing games (World of Warcraft) it sometimes starts jiggling. I just thought i would throw that in there.
Any help on how to adjust these settings so that it looks better would be great!
We discussed this sort of issue in this thread:

That may help you. Ultimately what solved the issue was getting a Display Port to VGA adapter for the Mac Mini, then a VGA cable to go to the monitor (if the monitor has a VGA port). That's the cable you're thinking of, it's not serial, it's a VGA (it has a blue connecting end with 15 pins).
A VGA cable picture can be found on the wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector
Thank you! That did the trick, i simply used a VGA cord with the DVI adaptor to connect it to MacMini and everything was golden after that. Still a bit of tweeking, but a bizilion times better than HDMI. Thanks again!
hi i just bought this monitor and im trying to hook it up to the macbook pro and then later to a mac mini, but its not working through the hdmi cable..firstly its not even powering on and then its just not getting any signal...is this bc its hdmi and not vga ? i thought buying an hdmi monitor is better than using a vga signal....it also says 'compatible with windows 7' on the box so that leaves me worried, and the setup cd is not for macs....help pls.
ok i got it to work....for now...in hdmi with the macbook pro - i guess ill see what happens when i buy the macmini. the monitor was shaking the picture for a while until i switched out of 1080i into 1080p.
i had the same problem, i solved it by buying a more higher end "hdmi to vga" wire, i 1st bought a cheap conversion wire "hdmi to vga" from a slow boat from china via Amazon and it didn't work on my macbook but seems to be working well on my windows laptop.
so i bought another conversion wire via Amozon "hdmi to vga" from a company called Sewell Quirts in a 10' version.... now my mac mirrors or extend my laptop monitor, hope this helps.
and its not a "file" issue like everyone else says in here.
and my acer monitor is an older one with only a dvi and vga inputs.... using it to extend my 2014 macbook pro retina.
I got the same problem with my 32" Emerson TV via the HDMI connection. The display is not sharp at all. Would buying a Thunderbolt monitor solve the problem? I may have to go the cheaper way and buy a HDMI to VGA adapter.
Driving a TV via HDMi often results in a "blurry? image especially for older TVs and for text.
Best, besides Thunderbolt monitor, is a monitor/TV that has a displayport or mini displayport input. Next would be DVI and last VGA.
HDMI is a digital signal so you need a HDMI to VGA converter (it requires USB power), not a simple adopter.
For using HDMI, some monitors/TVs have a sharpness control. It may be labeled differently.
