Hi there. Have purchased and downloaded some music from iTunes. Would like to purchase some of these songs as a gift, and send them to a friend ... But cannot find a way to do so, since the iTunes store registers that I have already purchased the music I want to gift. Any suggestions for a work-around?

I agree. It seems a strange oversight, since the people most likely to want to gift a track are those who own and like it already. You can comment to Apple here, if you wish:

Find the song in the iTunes store, click the down triangle after the Buy button and select Gift this song.

It worked 18 months ago when I posted how to do it.
I haven't tried it lately.
For some reason the iTunes Store indeed does not give you the "gift" option if you are viewing a track you've purchased on the album page. Here's a workaround, though: find the track by searching for it. You should then be able to gift it from the results screen even though you own it.

varjack paw - THANKS! Your suggestion works perfectly. Apple should make it easier as most probabaly just give up and do not spend any money buying others a song they like.

You cannot give a gift of an individual song from an iPhone. You need to use iTunes on a computer. Otherwise, see:
