Any APP crashes when opening/saving on different locations

I have absolutely no idea how to understand or what to look for into those huge amounts of words and numbers. I don't have any idea. Any help for that?

Update:

The problem still persists. I have tried with other apps, such as Excel, Mail, Text Edit, etc (you know that also Safari and Photoshop) and the problem is exactly the same... So the problem doesn't come from the apps.

Strangely, when doing some automated task in Photoshop (I use to retouch plenty of pics, it's my job) like using the Script Tool located in the File Menu, I have to open a location and browse for the pics I want to automate, just like opening a window from any app, and browsing for a file and it doesn't crash. It¡s exactly the same thing but it doesn't crash.

Weird...

No... I just opened Text Edit and wanted to save into a different location than the suggested by the Mac. Then there it crashes. It happens with any app. If I browse to another location but, have found that it crashes when I chose a location from the panel located at the left of Finder. Will try with Photoshop... Mmmhhh... I think I'm having jailed kitties here... Let me try other thing... Excel... Yeap... Got the cat jailed....

Found that any app have no problems with the browser... Been trying more combinations and found that the browser crashes only when I choose the Desktop located in the left panel in Finder or when browsing HD/Users/MacPro/Desktop. Then there it crashes!!!

So the Desktop has a problem.

I deleted the desktop shortcut on the left side of finder and added again and the problem persists. But's the desktop, something related to it...

Yeah, went into another account and all works fine. Anytime I have a problem with the OS, I log in to another account and all works flawlessly. Even Free RAM is a bit more than in my account and I have almost the same apps running on both accounts, meaning gadgets, spaces, personal configs, stuff on that bar which is located in the top of the screen, etc... I don't know why my other account works good and my main account doesn't. I thought many times passing from the main account to the other, but there are another lot of info that's not in the secondary account.

So... I will do some more repairing routines and see what happens... Will write here how's going 🙂

UPDATE:

So, been troubleshooting the problem (is that the right word?) and here are the updates:

1. Ran the utility disk and did al the stuff it can be done there (already did all the other routines).

2. The problem persists in any apps, which is:

3. When trying to open/save any file type by using the finder window into the desktop, the app, whichever will be, crashes.

¿Any idea about how to troubleshot this problem?

UPDATE 2:

So, I finally solved the problem 🙂

For much I googled it, I found none but a geek looking website around page 10 or so (I rarely go to page 2 on google, and I think we most do that) and found the website I'm talking about which says: "Symptoms of a corrupt or damaged Desktop may include missing or "generic" icons, applications failing to open documents, documents failing to open applications, sluggish System behavior, audible and excessive disk-read-write noise (chatter), and freezing or crashing when attempting to use 'Open', 'Save', and 'Save As' commands within applications".

So I moved all the files from Desktop to another place, tried to save as, ope, etc and all worked flawlessly 🙂 Put the files again into the Desktop and the problem appeared. Moved all again and just put one file which gave me the first problem, a, who knows, bad saved file from Photoshop weeks ago and the problem started again, moved it, and the problem also moved it with the file. Now, the corrupted file cannot be saved as, whichever be the directory it's found and also, affects any app to save as if the corrupted file is on the same folder.

So curious... It seems that the finder triggers the corrupted file, when the save as window pops up, making the app to crash. Okay... Problem solved... will see what can I do with the corrupted file (it can be saved without using the save as command, at the least).

Oh, by the way, after opening the corrupted file into Photoshop and then, deleting the corrupted file, I can now save as the file and it's not corrupted anymore. Makes me wonders why... I think there is an entity producing the problem and the file isn't actually corrupted... A DS.store maybe...

No idea, Kat. I have not had the problem anymore and also, haven't opened the corrupted files anymore as well.

However, I have isolated the corrupted files because, somehow, they seems to "infect" all the files inside the same folder, but I think it's more related to some "inside folder structure" that mixed with the corrupted file makes all the folder a kind of failure.

Try isolating the corrupted files by opening each of them and trying to "save as" them in order to see which one is the problem and isolate it.

The weird thing is that in Windows, the same files work fine (like PSD/TIFF Files), so somehow, it's a problem with the OSX.

Which version of the OSX are you suing? I was using Snow Leopard in that period of time.

I don't know how, but you should be able to see hidden files in Desktop that may be causing the problem as well. When I removed those hidden files the problem was solved. But I don't know how to see those files right now. I have not more problems since then.
