what is a "Team Provisioning Profile"?

On the iphone 3GS, in Settings, under Profile, I must have done something that now shows that my Profile is "Team Provisioning". I have no idea what that is.

Now I've been getting alerts that say the Team Provisioning Profile is about to expire, and that I should renew. But I don't know what it is.

Can someone explain to me whether or not it's connected somehow to one of my apps, or if it's system related (and thus, necessary), or whether it's something I should get rid of.

Are you a developer? Installed beta software on your phone? Generally, a team provisioning profile is from an apple developer's account.

No, I'm not a developer, just a regular (somewhat savvy) consumer.

That's why I'm stumpped about this. I use a lot of apps and was just overseas, so maybe something I did caused this profile to show up. Don't know if I should let this "expire" tomorrow or not.

Provisioning profiles must be installed, they don't just happen. So at some point you installed it, possibly from a web link (did you ever beta test an app, or install a custome app). If you have an Exchange email account it may have been installed by your network administrator.

Thank you so much for the interest in getting me past this silly glitch. Well, no I'm not a beta tester, and I don't have an Exchange account. So, it's looking as though I did do something that unkowningly installed this. So, sounds like I should let the Team Provisioning Profile expire, right?

I would. The worst that will happen is some app will stop working; then you will know how it got there.

Are you absolutely positive you've not installed any apps from any developer? I can't think of any other way that profile could have gotten on your phone. Developer's install these profiles on devices that run/test their apps.
