Q: Final Cut Server is Dead

What a news!

I am wondering how many FCSvr deployments are out there and what would be our Plan B.

IMHO, Final Cut Server is still the best asset management system in production space, and it would be hard to replace it.

Mac SE30 was the start, Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier, all the latest  stuff

Yes, I too would like to start this discussion. We have a highly customized distribution, and have come to rely on FCSvr for our workflow. As people find other solutions, or stick with FCSvr, it would be great to know their thinking and how they'll implement the new or the old. If Apple open sources it, there are a number of people who would love to start developing it more I'm sure.

Considering both EditShare and CatDV now. We might even go as far out as going Avid all the way.

If only a software been discontinued means GNU we could mantain it, but it'll be forever property of Apple.

I have a awful feeling. I don't even know how to express it. A mix of angry and sadness.

I'll for sure not be an Apple evangelist anymore.

Apple should give back to the community just like it did with Darwin Streaming Server and Open Source Final Cut Server. It's clear that many depend on it and have huge collections of assets and various workflows that need some sort of support. Plus it would be a great PR move in light of the FCP X launch disaster.
