Final Cut Pro X - Import AVCHD?
Can FCPX import AVCHD files directly, or do they still need to be converted first? I have MTS files from a Panasonic GH2 digital camera that are in AVCHD that are grayed out when I try to import them.

60i is 29.97. 60 interlaced fields. Is 60i what you shot? 60p is 59.94.
clearly, that's what was shot last time--I didn't bother checking that, cause I hadn't made any physical changes to the camera's settings. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I'm betting it was that blankety blank TSA scanner machine thingy! It's a wonder it didn't low level format my SDHC cards!😕
My friend Hal just told me that "he's seen this kind of thing before, and it's always attributable to human error."
😁
Dear Tom. I have a Panasonic Tm-900 that captures 1080p in .mts file and i cannot import directly to Final Cut Pro X. Has been release before1-2 months the new model from Panasonic that as i read can <<contain>> the 1080p to last format AVCHD. Do you know if it is possible for my camcorder to upgrade its firmware so it can capture 1080p in the latest AVCHD?
Thank you.
I don't know.
I have the same camera and have had no (that's zero) problems importing into FCPX in any of the AVCHD codecs or the 1080/50P codec which is, incidentally, staggeringly good quality for such a small camera that I use it a lot (almost weapon of choice now) for web content.
Just seems to work preety sweet.
What do you mean no problem! FCPX does not import .mts files? How do you import?
I move the files 1080 50p, from the camcorder to my hard drive, convert with Clipwrap and import.
Something more. Have you tried Canon Vixia HF G10. I have a feeling that in studio light situation it captures better quality.
Thank you?
All I can tell you is I import 1080/50P files shot on a Pansonic TM900 direct from card into FCPX without using clip wrap or any other third party software.
Are they .mts files to be honest I have no idea...there do appear to be some files entitles mts in the following path.
Private - AVCHD - Stream
Any format you shoot with a Pansonic TM900 will transcode nice and easy into FCPX.
You are trying to be too clever...FCPX will see the card and you just hit Command ! (Import from Camera) and bingo...what's the problem?
For sure Canon cameras very good...I tnd to just work with available light though...if lighting is required I work with a lighting cameraman.
Something more and i will go to test it.
If you have the same camcorder you know that has a hard disc built in. Why you use card. I just say that because i have tried it many times and does not import these 1080/50p files. Maybe if i use card instead of the hard disc!?
I have the card only version of the TM900...internal card and external card.
I didn't buy the one with the drive because cards are so much easier to handle. If you use the card it will be fine.
Must be possible with disk I would hink but I have no experienc with using the version with th hard drive.
You want to be careful with hard disks. One, they can take a very long time to load in FCP, for the application to read the files; and two, you want to make sure there is no mixed media on disk, no 1080i50 as well as 1080p50 or 720p50; it all has to be the same format.
whereas mixed mdia on a card imports fine although I admit gave myself a shock when I accidentally pushed the 1080/50P button on the camera and then after a few shots went into playback mode and all the AVCHD files had disappeared. They showed up after I went back into AVCHD thn shot one second, went into playback mode and there was the morning's work but then the 1080 didn't show up!
An anomaly with the camera which caused me a little anxiety but it all imported fine from the card.
; )
Ioanni,
I've had the same issue before that Final Cut wouldn't import AVCHD MTS files from the internal memory of a camera (Sony) but would do so from the memory card. Final Cut requires the complete folder structure for importing MTS files and recognizes this from the memory card and apparently not from the internal memory in some cases. Too bad you already have ClipWrap. Before you go out and buy a card which is expensive in Greece try using RevolverHD to recreate the AVCHD folder structure from the bare MTS files you get from your camera. It may be cheaper than buying a card. There is a trial version so it won't cost you anything to try it. Also, see Chris's (ctzsnooze) entry on page 3 of this thread. Hope it works. By the way, you should read this thread from the beginning.
Cheers,
Use AVCHD to FCP Converter and convert the files to .mov . This format is easy to work with for FCP or imovie and there will be much less of a hassle for you. Transfer the file from the camcorder by USB and then run the files through AVCHD Converter. It is quick and easy. This is the best option until Apple wakes up and realizes that no one is selling firewire camcorders any more.
This message is spam for a useless product. FCP has always worked with AVCHD media.
