App Store says my Mac Pro's Graphic Card Wont Work with FCP X

I have a Mac Pro 3,1 Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 2.8 GHz with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card.. I have 12 GB of memory.

When I went to download FCP X from the App store, I got the message that it would not work with my graphics card. Same for Motion 5 and Compressor.

What is the least expensive card I can purchase that will let FCP X run on my machine? Also, I assume it is something I can replace myself, as I have done with memory.

Thanks for any help.

I have two such setups myself running just fine now.

This has long been reported but I wasn't sure if Apple's App Store detection would pass it. Keep in mind Apple Online Store says 5770 is only officially supported on Mid 2010 and newer.

Sometimes detections are "artificial" as I remember a certain OSX not being able to run on a Dual G4 even though it good with a minor hack. Basically I needed to know if 5770 would pass detection for purchase on an older MacPro and the answer from several so far is a resounding YES.

I purchased FCP X today, and it runs quite smoothly. I even posted a thread earlier today because I was surprised it even worked.

These are my system specs:

2007 Mac Pro running OS 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard)

2 x 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon

4 GB of Memory

ATI Radeon X1900 XT

Apparently the ATI Radeon X1900 XT isn't OpenCL compatible, but, as I said, FCP X seems to run fine.

B. Kennedy:

Well, OpenCL in the current form didn't exist back then. The video cards from that time simply don't have the capability build into the chip.

That's why you buy a Mac Pro: you can simply plug in a newer Video Card and get higher speed.

I don't know what you want? New, better stuff for free?

An Ati 5770 will run you only 249 $ and will improve everything on your Mac Pro.

I don't know what you expect: Apple not implementing OpenCL for the enormous speed boosts FCPX gives us, because of the 3 guys in the world that are to cheap to get a 249 $ video card to cheaply refresh their older Mac Pros? With the money you save fro the new FCPX, compared to older versions, you could get 3 ATI 5770.

Calm down.
