The Final Cut Pro X CRASH Thread

Hi, I'd like to start a thread for people that experience crashed in Final Cut Pro X.

No other Applications crashes on my Mac Pro. I have never experienced crashes like

I do now with Final Cut Pro X.

During my three hours spend with FCPX it crashed about 8 - 9 times.

The Crash reporter seems to indicate that is related to the functions that use the Video Card acceleration.

It's always OpenCL / OpenGL ...

Please Post if your's crashes, too.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7), 6 Core, 8 GB RAM, Ati 5870

Tom, spent about 15 hours optimizing every edit and I have a section with about five stills in chromakey over live action over a background for which the optimize will not hold after restart. Trash pres, etc., Optimize again, try to export movie, crashes just like before. I may move the project to a different drive, I seem to be getting some minor improvements using Tech Tool volume rebuild, but not enough to save the transcodes and get the movie exported. Or, I may consolidate the project. Or, I may just end up using an earlier export. Too bad! I just can't seem to fix this thing up enough to get it out. I'll hold for another day and maybe the 14th I'll have better luck!

It looks like certain projects / events are causing my Final Cut Pro X configuration to crash upon start-up. Last week I was working on a project and after successfully completing it and rendering the video, everything seemed to be fine. However, when I started FCP the next day, it crashed on start-up everytime. I rebooted my Mac and the same problem occurred. I went ahead and moved the Projects and Events folder to a temp folder and FCP started up with no issues. Albeit with no projects or events. I added in some of my core event files that I re-use for projects and FCP continued to work fine. I then started a new project and after completing it, FCP started crashing on start-up again! Moving the project file fixes the problem.

It appears the FCP is very finicky about certain content in event and projects and the result is that it will crash upon start-up. I need this resolved ASAP or I may be looking towards another solution such as Avid Media Composer or Adobe Premiere Pro. I love tne new FCP X, but I just can't work with the crashing.

Tom Wolsky is right. Transcode everything on import. But it seems I had one pro res composite file I that was edited in FCS III and it seems to have been the endles rendering culprit--but all specs were the same, so why, MISTER APPLE?? Moreover, later when I consolidated media, FCS X ate one of my sustaining audio tracks with loads of cut narration. The track simply evaporated!

Bit of a crash then! Not had FCPX for very long, but every time I have tried to import some video files it crashes, regardless of the size and type of file. Luckily I still has the files on my camera (a Panasonic HS300), and they imported directly from the camera almost instantaneously. So thats one reason for crashing solved, still waiting for a solution to all the others....
