Q: The Final Cut Pro X CRASH Thread

Mine chrashes all the time when I want to share to DVD. Same problem by using compressor.

I experience crashes frequently.  The app will run smoothly after a computer restart, but then almost guaranteed, within 10 minutes fcpx will crash or I'll get the spinning beach ball and then it'll crash. 

Mine also crashes when I try to edit text.  Tonight it did this crazy freak out thing where the screen split in half - you can see it in this picture I took w my phone - it wouldn't even let me do a screen grab.  I've had to do three hard resets day because of final cut x. 

Matt are yuo running FCPX with 2 displays?

Just curious if this could ahve been a glitch in a dual display setup.

Wow, thanks again for your help, Tom. FCP X now doesn't crash when launched.

Unfortunately, my preferences are now gone... but at least I can use the program!

One of the things Preference Manager can do is to backup your prefs and restore them after you trash your prefs.

On a related note.  If an application has 3 million lines of code and it's 99.99999% bug free, you still have several hundred bugs.  Consider the math, it doesn't lie. And when your business and clients depend on it, well, think about it.

Absolutely... the only glitch in that reasoning is: The program is named Final Cut Pro 10 (X), it sounds like an upgrade to Final Cut does it not. Problem is, it has nothing to do with Final Cut Pro, the similarity is in name only. Apple could've avoided all the negative publicity by simply giving the program it's own name.

I agree though.. it's foolish to upgrade to an initial release and new OS if you're doing professional work...but to keep that in balance Apple's motto is "It Just Works" and many became used to upgrading FCP for new features and improvements and were not disappointed.  There's a plus and minus to both sides, Apple is culpable for some of the heat they're taking.

Yes.  A number of mistakes by Apple that could have been avoided.  It was disturbing to see the reactions, though.  There was no reason for how some people behaved.  Us "pros" know better.  Yes, FCP X sounded like an upgrade/update but it didn't take much research to see that it wasn't.  Way too much confusion over the release. 

And pulling Studio off the market was a double whammy because those of us who've been around the block know that Studio is our workhorse and will be used for some time to come. Especially those of us with several projects in pre-production and know better than to switch platforms without a lot of testing.  The learning curve is too steep and painful to switch on a whim.

Ah, such is life. We live and learn. Perhaps Apple has a real Pro version of X in the works for the rest of us.

Yes.   A lot on my system.

To all those posting error reports: WHY DON'T YOU USE THE FEEDBACK option in FCPX rather than filing complaints in a forum that will most likely not be read by the relevant Apple engineers?

Martin, it is essential that this community continues to share the trouble they are having with Final Cut X, or any other Apple product.   Especially since Apple is so secretive. 

For example, if it wasn't for this forum, I might of gotten stuck with a gurgling 27" iMac last year.  After logging into this forum, I learned that the indigestion was an epidemic, and back it went in time for me to get a full refund.

Well said Susan21.  It is forums like this that allow me to troubleshoot things when others post similar problems.  For instance, now I know not to try to edit text with the inspector open.  Were it not for this forum, I might not be getting things done.  For that I am thankful for all the complaining because it encourages solutions.

Sure Apple could have done things better, but the community coming together to drive solutions, work-arounds, and peace of mind that you're "not the only one" in the meantime is something I really value.

Besides, Martin is incorrect, there have been several Apple people monitoring this forum since the FCPX release.

When users spend money for a product.. they have every right to come into the manufacturers forum and log complaints about it, no one has any idea where feedback goes to, the bit bucket for all anyone knows.
