Home button not responding on iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3.3). Any fixes?

I have noticed that the home button on my iPhone 4 does not respond normally any longer. I often have to press the button several times and when I do a double tap to see open and running apps it just takes me to the search screen instead. Is anyone else having this issue? Could it be that the phone is suffering from software bloat and being less responsive since the update? I rarely if ever have an unusually high number of apps running simultaneously and never had this problem in the past. I feel like it started after the last update but I'm not certain of the time line.
