- What happens when you try to restore the iPod?

- Have you tried resetting the iPod:

Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home

button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Placing the iPod in DFU mode:

I have the same problem as jamesfromriverside. I have the ipod touch (4th generation) itunes said there was an update available. Did it. (from a computer other than mine (bc mine wouldn't do the update, it kept timing out)) update was successful, said bc it wasn't the "home itunes" it would loose all date (ok, I can put it back on no problem 🙂 ) said it had to be restored clicked ok now its stuck in recovery mode. I've gone thru several steps from the support.apple.com ... nothing is working and I'm ready to throw this thing in the fireplace, do you have any suggestions for me? I've tried a hard reset about 20 times ~ thanks prkthompson

I'm not the best with computers and electronics and it took me a few hours of being alone to get it fixed 🙂 First Hold down the home button (round button at bottom) and the on/off button at top until the ipod goes off and comes back on. From what I read on here that is supposed to do a hard reset, the ipod should say connect to itunes. Connect to the computer and follow prompts, I remember the main problem I had was my Firewall (that came on computer) was blocking me from doing some type of something 🙂 but somwhere on these discussions I found how to turn off my firewall, once the ipod was restored I turned it back on, I think you have to restart your computer once you turn off the firewall and then when you turn it on not sure though, sorry. The firewall was my biggest issue and once I turned it off the restore went smooth. Hope this helps.
