My ipod touch is running 3.1.3 (7E18) version and whenever I check for updates, it says it is running the current version. How do I upgrade to IOS4 and then IOS5?
If your ipod os the original (1st gen), then you do not update it. It is running the latest software that it can handle.
If it is a second gen, then you can update to 4.2.1. Click check for updates in the summary tab.
If it is a third or 4th gen, then you can update to 4.3.3 in the same manner.
If you own a 1G iPod Touch, iOS version 3.1.3 is the latest version you can run on it. You will not be able to upgrade any further.

OK then which iPod Touch will run iOS 5.1? Is there a 5th generation iPod Touch?? I thought only a 4th generation - and I thought that (the current model being sold in the Apple Stores) was gen 4 and ran iOS 5.1 - please correct me / let me know!

The iPod Touch 5 is only sold online,for now.
