    Just a thought...if one purchases from the Apps Store can FCPX run 'offline'? that is, with no internet connection.

    I would prefer a .dmg, means I can load and edit in the field on the laptop. Another thought, if you have just got a refund...does your version still work? or is 'broken' remotely by the Apps store. Anybody tried moving the app from one platform to another? Cannot still work Shirley.

    From my understanding the process is not transparent, if there is a DMG file, it is hidden while the process installs then is later deleted, (just a theory) the more likely senario is that you will have to download directly from the App store, every time, translation, if you have to for what ever reason install the software again.


    You will have to go to the App store and download the entire file all over again.


    I wish I could say that it was a good idea, but sadly, I cannot.

    Oh crap...sounds like LionX is going the same way. This just cannot be right. Call me old fashioned but I do like to 'rebuild' the entire mac once in while. That means erasing the HD and reloading the OS and apps...which is why I have all my apps as disc images on a external drive. So easy. Looks like after all these years I am stuck with a fashion accessory. A big expensive smart phone.

    Its weird, a few years back I switched from Microsoft because of their crazy attitude to software development and licensing, now Apple seem to be going the same strange way with theirs.The idea of an OS and apps that you can't rebuild from disk in an emergency on site is pretty flaky. I think it might be time to go fully linux and keep apple just for what they are good at - hardware. The only missing app on linux now is an industrial strength video editor but that seems to be just about to be fixed with lightworks. For every other thing I use now there is already a decent free or well priced app that will run on linux already. It is getting close to the point where people don't have to put up with the decisions of crazy meglomaniac marketing departments if they choose. I really don't think I will be "upgrading" to lion somehow.

    it doesn't erase the app when they give you a refund. i still wont use it, but it is a weird biz model.

    How does one best apply for a refund? I used AppStore Account and Billing support.

    I successfully received a refund for FCPX and Compressor.   In my request, I simply stated that the fact it could not open any older FCP docs was unacceptable, and that nowhere in the App store page did it note this issue.
