How does iPad play thru external speakers?

The only two ways I know of are 1) via the use of a cable or 2) via airplay enabled speakers attached to an Airport Express/Extreme. I use a cable to conect my iPad to my Bose Wave player, it plugs into the headset jack on the iPad and into the AUX port on the Bose.

This is the cable you need, there are some other alternatives depending on what it is that you want to connect to.

You can also use Bluetooth speakers.

Cwpittman, the cable should comes with your speaker, the one you use to connect it with you computer or laptop.
