I have seen several archived threads involving this printer and I am looking for some help! Pahu - are you out there?!

i am dealing with a real estate office that has mostly PC's in the building and a couple of Macs but are looking to switch the office to Mac. But not if they can't print to their existing printer.

I have followed the instructions below but still have problems. I have bidirectional communication between the Mac - I have tried three - and the printer. I can send a job to the printer using a password and the the printer indicates that it is processing data but the print job never emerges. When I check the log on the printer, I can see the jobs that have been sent but they show as 0 pages and NG which I assume is No Good. It may be a coincidence but I get the same result when I try to print the configuration page directly from the printer.

Any help would be appreciated.

You then enter the IP address of the copier, a Queue Name of LP, and for the Print Using, when you click 'Select Printer Software' and the search window appears, type 5180 to short list your view. This should make the entry "Canon iR C5180 UFR II (US)" appear. Select it and press OK. This completes the print queue creation for the iR C5180."

The NG errors (which does stand for No Good) are most likely caused by the Department ID management in the copier. If you selected the NG error in the log and then selected details, at the top you would see the error code. #701 is related to incorrect IDs or print counts being exceeded. If this was the error code for the NG entries then this would explain why the report printed from the copier also errored. In both cases the ID's that you have entered for printing the report and printing from the Mac have reached their print limits. So on the copier you will need to access Department ID Management (Additional Functions > System Preferences) and then check what values have been entered for color and b&w printing.

We used to use ImageRunners here (the company switched to Xerox last summer), and there were never any issues for these with Macs. First, install the driver (PPD, if using PS3, otherwise UFRII) (see http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/office/color_imagerunner_copiers/Color_imageRU NNER_C4080_C4580_C5180_C5180i_C5185_C5185_PRO_C5185i/color_imagerunner_c5180#Dri versAndSoftware) and then add the printer per usual. You shouldn't require a password of any sort.

Make sure that the printer (using the printer management software) is configured to accept jobs using the LPD or JetDirect protocols. Also, there's an option to turn on Bonjour support for it to be found by Macs, which is handy (if unnecessary).

Actually, I liked the ImageRUNNERs quite a bit. They were excellent printer/copier/scanners.
