RedHavoc:

Are you really that stubborn?

The marketing version can be anything.

Following your logic it would have to be version 8.0, because in your logic it is the successor to 7.

It is a complete rewrite. There is NO code taken over from FCP7 and before.

For the programmers it is 1.0.

That is why a lot of things are missing. More Codec and Tape support are coming with the new AV foundation, for example. Apple has to rewrite EVERYTHING.

I like that about FCPX.

I am an iMovie "expert" I guess since I run the UIMFAQ.com but when I need to do semi pro or detailed type editing I go to FCP.

I would love to say that the new FC X is great but I just can't. The rendering is awesome and I really do not have too many issues with the interface (since it has "iMovie intuitivness") but in maybe an hour and a half of use I cannot begin to tell you how many crash reports I have sent.

So I think I am getting my $300 back. I will come back when it runs stable. The other thing that kind of tweaks me off is the export limitations. Good grief! I thought maybe i could send it to the version 4 Compressor but that is a NO GO too.

Rendering in the background is, to put it simply, amazing. The 64-bit build makes it blazingly fast. I love the re-design, and I have spent my entire day so far working with it. I imported an old scratch disk of mine and am re-editing an old video project of mine, nothing too long but I'm basically applying everything that's new. There is a LOT of potential here. It's just a huge learning curve.

There has been word from Apple through the grapevine that they will updating soon. It is version 1.0 for the programmers, so obviously they have some work to do. I mean, they've already released 1300 rights-free sound effects. I think we'll be seeing backwards support for FCP7 soon, and then a lot of the complaints will die down. I saw somebody complain about loss of precision... it's just a new interface to learn, all the old precision is still there. Once you turn off "skimmer" though. That is very annoying.

Don't despair, the future of FCPX is bright, in my opinion.

I look forward to the fully mature product, but for now, I still have FCP7 to do what I need to do, and for rendering and the effects I can use FCPX. I can continue to use the product that I have the most knowledge, speed and skill with while learning this new product.

A 2011 Mustang is a completely different car than a 1965 Mustang, their only commonality being the nameplate. That's why I believe they aren't calling this FCP8, this is a whole new program.

Complain all you want, but I paid 1/3 of what I paid for FCP7 and I will at least use it 1/3 of the time so I don't feel like I was ripped off.
