External hard drive corrupts files.

I recently bought a TOSHIBA 1 TB external hard drive. Whenever I try to put a file on it the file gets corrupted. For example, my music files become skippy or I'm un able to unachieved files.

I'm running on 10.6.7, a fresh install around 20 hours old. It's not the format of the external, I formatted it to every posibility.

If I format to any of the Mac OS Extended I cannot write the files back to my Mac, and if I use the other formats it corrupts as it is wrote to the hard drive but I can copy those corrupted files back.

Cable is not the problem either, I borrowed a friends cable (And his works perfectly) and it still does the same thing.

Did you use Disk Utility to Erase with ZERO option the drive?

Yea sure it's going to take 4 - 5 hours, but it works miracles. 😀

If it still doesn't work, you simply got a lemon. Take it back.

(maybe it got a little radiation?)

Ahh, I forgot about the ZERO option. I'll try and get back when Disk Utility is finished.

Reformat the drive as an Mac OS extended (journaled) after it is finished tray moving a file to the drive. If it is still giving your problems the try running disk utility on the drive to verify and repair also repair permissions. if you are still having problem it could be a bad hard drive.
