What to do?

so I have an IPhone 3GS, on OS 4.3 *previously jailbroken*, and i am having a very strange problem. The phone gets very hot while charging, and will not turn on or respond when plugged into the computer, im not sure if it is the battery not holding a charge, and the phone is totally dead, or if the previous jailbreak has fried it. Another strange thing is that the phone used to restart when plugged into my Xbox 360, it is no longer working though, any help is appreciated.

PS. i have learned my lesson on jailbreaking, no need for lectures.

May be a bad battery. But the first step is to try a Reset, hold together Home and Power buttons for about 15 seconds until the iPhone turns on. If this does not work then, try to Restore the Firmware. Hold Home button as you connect iPhone with USB cable to iTunes on computer, keep holding Home button until the iPhone enters Recovery Mode, then Restore. If this does not work, try DFU Mode Restore, with iPhone connected with USB cable to iTunes on computer, hold together Home and Power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, then release Power button, keep holding Home button for about 20-30 seconds, could be longer. When iTune message box tells you it has dectected iPhone in Recovery Mode, then click to Restore the Firmware. If this does not work, may be a bad battery.
