Yahoo mail can't connect to server

It happens to me on occasion too, and only with my Yahoo! account. Unfortunately from what I can tell it really is that the servers are temporarily unavailable. (Yahoo! appears to use a separate bank of servers for iOS access than for regular web access.)

I've found that after a couple of minutes, things are always back to normal.

I've not been able to receive Yahoo mail on my MacBookPro since last night. I suspect something is wrong at Yahoo.

My husband, who has Sony computer with Microsoft software, is also not getting Yahoo mail.

We can log onto the Yahoo site and get mail there, but not on our personal mail servers on our laptops.

I am having the same problem, since about 12:30PM yesterday. I am in Eastern time zone. I contacted Yahoo since nothing has changed on my side, and my Plus account is still active. All they did was give me instructions on how to clear my browser cache and told me to try again in a few hours. I'm able to access Yahoo Mail just fine via browser, iPad and iPhone...just not Mail on my MacPro. I do think it's an issue with Yahoo's servers. There are quite a few reports of OS X Mail users having the same issue around the same time. The best thing you can do at this point is open up a support case with Yahoo and wait for further info.

If you are indeed experiencing the same issue, you will see an error icon next to your Yahoo account inbox in Mail. If you click it, a message will pop up stating "....The attempt to send data to the server "(null)" failed." This tells me either Mail is suddenly not specifying a server to contact (highly unlikely) or the server has gone down or is not receiving data properly (likely).

I just got a replacement iPad yesterday and my yahoo mail does not fully refresh, and the loading dial keeps spinning and spinning. All other sites work fine. Glad to see it is not this device and hope yahoo gets it together.

Correction to my 8:35 a.m. post: The Sony/Microspft connection to Yahoo mail is working ok. It was my MacBook Pro email account to which Yahoo was not delivering messages.

As a workaround, you can try going into your Account preferences and turn off/uncheck "Use SSL". You should be able to download your mail this way until the problem is fixed.

Suzy is right. Uncheck the SSL box on mail preferences - advanced. Port window should show 110, not 995.

This is exactly what is happening for me. Yahoo Mail comes through fine on iPad, iPhone but not my MacPro? Anyone hear anything else. It seems to have been a problem since last night. ??? I wonder if this has anything to do with the yahoo recent upgrade?

I've been having the same problem and it started around the same time that I updated my Yahoo account. I could connect to Yahoo through my iPad, but still had Internet access and could access Yahoo through other computers. The only way to solve it was to turn my iPad on and off, but I was having to do that several times a day. I updated my iPad software too but that didn't help. I finally called Apple support this am and they said that they hadn't heard anything like it and said that it was a Yahoo problem. I got a notice from Yahoo that they wanted me to upgrade to Safari 5, but Apple said they weren't supporting Safari 5 until the Fall???

I have yet to contact Yahoo yet but in the meantime I've forwarded my Yahoo email to my gmail account and so far that's working.

My iPad 2 will connect to my yahoo mail but will not download my contacts. Does anyone have any suggestions. It is very frustrating.

Is this mail preferences within yahoo or on the iPad 2? I am having problems finding it. Thank u

Hi, I am still having the problems people talk about above, not being able to connect to yahoo 'mail cant connect to the yahoo account'...I tried unchecking the SSl box, this has not helped either. Does anyone have any more ideas please? I live in the UK, based in London. thanks. I am on a mac book pro, yahoo works on my iphone...
