That's it for me - Project work disappeared...

So, that's it for me so far with FCP X.... Got to either stick with FCS3, or head to Adobe...

Today I was working on my first FCP project. I did about 3hrs work this afternoon, and then quit for a while. Everything was fine...

Then I launched it again, and did around 3hrs more work. Of course, there's no 'save', so I'm just assuming everything is 'saving' along fine. I noticed that the 'skimming' feature didn't seem to be working anymore, so I quit FCP X, and then re-launched it (no error messages, or anything).

All of a sudden, my project is back to where I FIRST quit 3 hours ago! 3 hours of work just disappeared in 20 seconds!

Can anyone suggest why this may have happened? If I can't trust this software to do something as basic as just SAVE my files, what good is it at all?

Frustratingly yours....

Probably FCPX is reaching the OS open file limit before the app's own internal open file limit. Unlimited undo feature is a proven killer of projects on the Mac, as evidenced by MIcrosoft Word on the Mac. I'm guessing FCPX hits that wall. I agree that this was written for iOS, not the current version of NeXTStep that we're running now.Maybe iOS has a bigger open file limit. Hope so. Glad I don't need anything that FCPX has to offer.

Same thing here... I continually make sure Command-Z is working because once that stop working I know I have issues. I also have noticed with my projects that when skimming stops working your project is not being saved. I lost about 6 hours of work having this happen twice.

Now with all other projects I am constantly checking after every edit that Command-Z as well as skimming works.

Very frustrating...

I'm on Leopard 10.6.8, spent quite a while working on a project with several layers of composite clips, the undo button was disabled but I don't think anything of it, closed Final Cut this morning, and when I went to open it up again, the project was back to where I started with it. Hope Apple releases an update soon, this is a really annoying bug.

FCPX I tried so hard to like you, trying not to be put off by all the negative press. I sat down and properly studied the app as best I could, working through Ripple Training guides to hep me understand how great this product should be. I decided to try out FCPX on a smallish project for a client and settled down on a Sunday evening to be wowed by the plethora of features and tweaks that would make me go oohh and ahhh as I crafted my edit. I held back the urge to keep hitting CMD+S to save, as I am told I can (have to) let FCPX do this for me now, excellent.

Oh wait, I just reopened the project and it appears that the last save was done 3hrs ago.....thanks for that. Now whats this I hear about a 50% discount over at Adobe?!

Shocking Apple just shocking - if you wanted the world to be beta testers for you just ask.

Adobe seems to be running a promotion for Final Cut Pro switchers to Adobe Premiere. The most attractive deal is the one that includes the whole CS 5.5 Production Premium Suite, which includes After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and a number of other applications.
