URGENT: Unable to open file because it isn't a valid Keynote document

A keynote file I worked on last only yesterday won't open - get this error - "Unable to open 'filename' because it isn't a valid Keynote document."

Time machine -- all the previous versions give the same message.

I am going to kill myself. This is a HUGE presentation I've been working on for days for a HUGE client.

Oh god please help me, apple support. Please tell me how I can get this file to open. Please oh god please. 😢 😢 😢 😢 😢 😢 😢

Yes, this is a legally purchased copy of keynote.

Have you tried to create a new Keynote Presentation? Do you have another previously saved Keynote file you can try to open? These will make sure it is a problem with this specific presentation and not the whole program.

Try to delete the Keynote Preferences. They are located in the folder Macintosh HD>Users>your username>Library>Preferences and titled com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist.

Your profile shows that you are still on Mc OS 10.6.6, is that true? You might try to update to 10.6.7 as I believe that there was a font issue fixed in this update (I don't know for sure since I am still on 10.5.8).

Try those and report back and we will see what we can come up with.

THIS WORKED:

1. Get info on file

2. Change extension to ".zip"

3. Right click (or control click) and open with "Archive Utility"

4. The file will look like a folder... open it

5. Find the file named index and re name "index.apxl.gz"
6. Close Folder
7. Get info and add ".key" extension
8. File menu and open!

APPLE, U NEED TO FIX THIS. If an old friend hadn't told me this on facebook I'd be redoing a week's worth of work.
