hdapm fails with 10.6.8 update

Hi Bruce/all,

I have just updated to 10.6.8 and have a Firewire connected WD 1T drive.

Since the update, whenever this drive is connected, even with all volumes ejected, every 15seconds or so, my MacBook Pro hangs for a second and the DVD internal drive clunks and resets.

If I physically disconnect the WD 1T drive there are no issues and I can connect another firewire drive without problem.

Could this be the same problem - HDAPM?

With further OS X changes coming in the very near future, do you have any idea whether this updated version of hdapm will play nice with Lion?

I have not yet tested hdapm on Lion (10.7), but have no reason to believe that it wouldn't work. If you give it a try, please let me know the result!

This doesn't sound like the sort of problem that hdapm could fix. For one thing, hdapm doesn't work on external devices. Sounds like your Firewire drive might be faulty.

Phew, thanks for sorting this all out y'all. Got hdapm to work again with my '09 MBP+WD drive.

Recently upgraded my mid-2009 MBP hard drive to a new Hitachi and was getting the dreading clunk noise every 15 sec or so. Bryce's utility has fixed the problem. Just wanted to publicly give thanks here since I couldn't find any other way to reach Bryce.

hdapm 1.2 works well on OSX 10.7.2

After I update my MBP(2008) to 10.7.5, hdapm report Set APM Level to 0xfe: FAILED: APM not supported

@shyujiaxin: hdapm 1.2 has been tested with OS X versions up to 10.8.2. It should work well with 10.7.5. What is your HDD model?
