My internal DVD-RAM burner (Matchita uj890AS) doesn't burn well, so I bought an HP external burner. I have iTunes 10.3 but can't get iTunes to recognize this burner when trying to burn music. CDs in the external will play in iTunes, but I can't burn.

Here are the diagnostics for my internal drive which continues to fail burns (error 4251). Although there was an audio CD in it when testing, and it shows in iTunes - the DIagnostic said it failed - Audio CD not inserted.

I'd be happy if I could get the internal working correctly and could return the external. Here are the internal diagnostics:

Virtual drives can sometimes interfere with reading and writing CDs in iTunes. If this is a virtual drive and you are having problems with other drives, try uninstalling the virtual CD application.

Once I have a Writer - iTunes should find it, right?

Should do ... it seemed to be seeing the HP drive okay. (In the past I've added an external burner to an XP system where the internal drive had died, and had no problems with iTunes seeing the new one.)

If there's any hassles, pop back here and post a fresh set of diagnostics for us, and we'll see if there's anything amiss that we can determine from that.

My internal DVD-RAM burner (Matchita uj890AS) doesn't burn well, so I bought an HP external burner. I have iTunes 10.3 but can't get iTunes to recognize this burner when trying to burn music. CDs in the external will play in iTunes, but I can't burn.
