Printer stopped working

My printer HP C3180 All in one Photosmart has been working great for years. Tonight I can't get it to print. The HP Setup Assistant keeps popping up but when you try to run it nothing happens. When I try to print from Word this message comes up. "Word cannot print due to a problem with the current printer. Make sure you have a printer selected in Print Center. You may need to print again or adjust your printer settings." In Printer Setup Utility the printer is visible to add but I get the following message when I try to add it "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. error 13"

Hi Brad, I'd try this first...

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.

Then try

Mac OS X: About the Reset Printing System feature ...

BDAqua -

I know this is dated, but I've had same issue with my HP 3180 and 10.6.8 lately. Thank you for the info you provided. I followed your post/link to 'Reset..." then to "Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6" (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3147). I had trouble-shot enough to get my iMac working (10.6.8), which I use as a wireless print-server; but my macbook was only sporadically fixed. All is now well!
