After updating to 10.6.8, I'm unable to print. Getting "paused printer" message.

Is anyone else having printing problems after updating to 10.6.8? When I try to print, system is telling me the printer is paused. Any known fixes?

The printer driver/queu is switching the printer to Paused - I have the same problem and it's definitley as a result of the upgrade and is specific to particular printers:

Just upgraded our suite of iMacs to 10.6.8 and now have a problem with one of our 2 Fuji-Xerox printers - one prints fine, the other switches to Paused. When we print to the Fuji-Xerox DocuCenter 2005 the queue tries to print and then fails and changes the printer to Paused - job error message is:

/usr/libexec/cups/backend/dnssd failed

I still have one iMac on 10.6.7 and it is printing fine to the printer so I'm sure it has been caused by the upgrade. Have restarted the printer. Problem exists on every 10.6.8 system I have checked today and all are ok printing to the other (older) F-X printer.

Any suggestions welcome. Thanks. Steve

After updating to 10.6.8, I experienced two printing issues. My printer is an HP Color Laserjet 1605dn. The first issue I appreciated was that all documents were in the landscape presentation during Preview prior to printing, regardless of settings. The second issue was that all file pages printed were blank. Following the "Reset Printing System" instruction cleared up the problem. Open the "Print Fax" System Preference and single click the problem printer while holding down the Control Key; choose "Reset Printing". You'll then need to add back the now deleted problem printer (and any others that were also deleted during the process). Restarting the Mac was not necessary.

(This is a copy of my post in this thread.)

I updated to 10.6.8 too, was suddenly unable to print to my before perfectly working printer (an HP Color LaserJet CP1515n hooked up to an AirPort Express), and started scouring the web for solutions. The more I tried, the more disappointed and frustrated I became. Then I came here, read about a possible solution in this very thread (the disk image 'Repair10.6.8.dmg') and became hopeful again.

But alas...

Sadly, this isn't working for me at all. I ran the script that supposedly fixes the print problems introduced in 10.6.8, but the print jobs still all pause the printer and fail with a 'broken pipe' error. It has nothing to do with the USB cable, as I can print just fine with the printer directly hooked up to my Mac wit that very same cable. I reinstalled the drivers, updated my printer's firmware, ran the repair script twice just to be sure, reset the printing system, even deleted all preference files with 'hp' in the name and having to do with printing, restarted my Mac. All with no result.

Man, this is so frustrating! Anybody with any other suggestions or possible solutions?

Yay, I have my printer working again!

Fed up with everything, I gave up trying to get it to work over USB. My HP Color LaserJet CP1515n is a network printer, so it also has an ethernet port. I just connected it via ethernet to the AirPort Express. That meant I had to give up network extension, as in that mode the Express doesn't allow ethernet clients. So now it merely joins the existing WiFi network created by my AirPort Extreme.

Printing is back to how it's supposed to work; I'm a happy camper again.

I had 2 macbooks that couldn't print to a Fuji Xerox Docucentre printer when they had been fine for months. I had a Fuji Tech try to sort it online with no luck at first.

This how we resolved it as a workaround:

Open a web browser and log in to the printer ip address...http://<printer ip> (This possibly can apply to other printers)

Navigate to "Port Status" and disable (untick) the SNMP Port and submit.

After this the printer worked.

The negative with this is that PC's might have problems printing now to this printer,

However, instead of the above, you can rather modify the printer driver script on the actual Macbook by editing and adding the following line in the driver file:

*cupsSNMPSupplies: False

This worked for me until there is an official update from Apple or printer manufacturers.

Hope this helps!

Howard,

Great idea with turning off cups SNMP Supplies, where would the driver file be? Is it binary or can it be edited. (been a while since I've command-lined anything in unix). Little help with location of printer drivers would be extremely beneficial.

Really don't want to use another person's LPD from the internet, therefore this is the best fix available for me.

Thanks,

Steve
