I think you are referring to the Apple Airport Extreme. If so no it will not auto shut off when you the computer is sleeping or shut down. I am curious why would that be important?
I want my Apple Extreme to be private and not interesting to have share one.
I have high speed internet for my home.
And I not always have internet access.
My Apple Extreme device top have warmest when I not want to access to the internet.
Is that normal?
I may to unplug Apple Extreme Device every time I not mood for internet access?
I see, to keep your Internet service private you have to use a password so that no one else can log into your network. If you need assistance doing this then I'd recommend contacting AppleCare and they can coach you on how to set it up. When you create the password write it down and put it in a safe spot in case you need to refer to it.Or if you want it's easy to set up.
1. Make sure the router is on.
2. On your MacBook Air hit the Command Key and Spacebar and type Airport Utility
3. In a few moments AirPort Utility will come up and see your AE.
4. Click the AE so it's highlighted
5. Click Manual Setup
6. Click the Wireless tab
7. Where it says Wireless Security choose WPA2 Personal (this ensures the highest level of security)
8. Where it says Wireless Password enter your new password and enter it again on the Verify Password line.
9. You're done!
Now only your computer can use your internet service, your computer should automatically log on every time you turn it on when you're home. No one can use your Internet service unless you give them the password. So for example if you have a guest stay with you a few days they may need this. Remember to keep the password somewhere safe, you may need it at some point.
Once you have done this is wise to leave the AE on 24/7. As for the warmth yes they are slightly warm when running but thats OK.
Once you have set up a password then you're set and when you don't want to use the internet simply walk away and be assured you have your privacy. I live in Silicon Valley and literally have hundreds of computers that could access my system if I didn't use a password.
