The iPhone "..." could not be synced because the sync session failed to start

I am trying to sync my iPhone 4 with iTunes and I receive this "The iPhone 'XYZ's iPhone' could not be synced because the sync session failed to start." I have synced this phone many times in the past without any issues and this error just started to occur. I have done all the usual: reset my phone settings, restarted my computer etc. Does anyone have any suggestion as to what I could do?

🙂 Wow, SodInfinity, you totally saved the day! 😎 My error is gone and now it's syncing at last! 😁

iPhone 4, immediately after iOS 5.0 update

Windows 7 64bit

iTunes 10.5.0

In my case, I had to:

1. Close iTunes

2. Stop and Restart the Apple Mobile Device Management Service by right clicking My Computer and selecting "Manage", then Services.

3. Reopen iTunes. I noticed my phone was NOT listed.

4. Unplug phone, wait 5 seconds, then reconnect.

5. It began syncing!! Hurray! 😀

It's now working for me too. Here's what I did.

I had upgraded to iTunes 10.5 on my Windows 7 (64bit) machine. Upgraded my iPad 2 3G to iOS5. An bought an iPhone 4S which of course comes with iOS5.

Wifi sync worked only intermittantly. Whenever I restarted iTunes, everything sync'd OK first time over wifi. But then it wouldn't work. Either the device disappeared from the iTunes device list, or the sync seemed to start (at one end: itunes or device) but never really got going.

RESOLUTION: Using Control Panel, uninstall iTunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, and Bonjour Print Service. Then reboot. Download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer, and install iTunes. Reboot.

Now wifi sync seems to work every time. Hope this helps others.
