Black & white photos in books

As I understand it, under iPhoto 5, all photos for books had to be in color; thus if one wanted to scan old b&w prints for a book, one had to scan them in color.

Three questions:

1. I note that one of the sample books shown on the iPhoto site seems to be all b&w; can books now contain both b&w and color?

2. If so, must one choose all one or the other (i.e., all b&w or all color), or can one mix them in the same bookk?

3. Is it still necessary to scan color prints in b&w to use them in a book?

I made a book using iPhoto 5 with b&w...

I just converted color photos to b&w using the tool on the edit page and added them to the book. The printing looked fine to me, with no obvious color cast; maybe slightly cool. B&W and color were mixed throughout the book with no ill effects.

I'm not sure that really answers your question, but I can confirm decent mixed color/b&w under iPhoto 5.
