I am going to University in september and am looking to purchase a mac book pro.

I will mainly be using it for writing, but i hope to learn more on editing and SFX, i aslo would use it for capturing video from my Ps3 and xbox to upload to the internet, any suggestions on the spec?

Well the obvious thing to say is go as big as you can! The better spec you buy, the longer it will last you and the quicker the things you want to do will be.

I work with a lot of video, doing transcoding, editing and the occasional bit of motion graphics and tend to find my 15inch, 2.2ghz i7 quad with 8GB ram seems to do the trick.

Looks great when you use an external monitor too, so I'd suggest having that sort of setup and an external hard drive to store all the media you record/shoot/create!

But if you can go bigger with the better processor then I would if I was you!

I would probably suggest upgrading your screen yes, I tend to use an external monitor though so not a huge problem, but if you are just going to work on the macbook's screen itself for doing graphics work or video editing then id get the highest resoultion you can.

You can pick up a decent monitor for about £100 these days, then never use your macbook pro monitor every again apart from for surfing when your out and about!
