Are you using these instructions:
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
Yes
What is the state of the iPod? Does it show any life?
It acts fine except that I'm having a hard time getting it to turn off. I'll hold the button but it doesn't do anything. I have got it to turn off a few times but it usually just locks and won't let me turn it off. Sometimes it doesn't even lock.
Could be a hardware problem with the switch. That type of problem could also effect getting the iPod in DFU mode. Have you tried just restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod w/o going into DFU mode?
Yes, but it says that my firmware isn't compatible. Which doesn't make sense because I know it is.
It sounds like you do not want to update to 4.3.3 right?
It won't let me update, says that my iPod is up to date
Are you saying that you have iOS 4.2.1 now? You first post said 4.1.2. If you have 4.2.1 are you sure you have a 3G iPod? If it is 8 or 16 GB it is a 2G that can only go to 4.2.1. A 32 can be either. See:
I'm sorry, my version is 4.2.1. I believe my iPod is the third Generation because its an MC. It's an 8GB
You have a 2G. Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPods. When the 3G ipods were introduced, Apple continued to sell the 8GB 2G with the update iOS that was on the 3G. Many users think that have a 8GB "3G" when they actually have a 8GB 2G.
I have a Ipod touch 3g 32GB and by following the instruction to enter dfu mode it doesnt goes into dfu mode and just restarts.. what should i do..? please help..
Try setting your compatibility mode to windows xp (service pack 2 or 3) and run as administrator. if it still doesn't work, try a different computer, it worked for me. If none of the computers in your house work, then try it at a friends house, be sure to use the settnings above for any other computer you are using.
