If I buy a iPhone, can I transfer my phone number from my current phone, which is a Tracfone (prepaid)?

That's sort of my problem. I don't have a carrier. With Tracfone, I just add minutes on the phone or internet. I believe these type of phones just work off all the different towers.
Then it will be very unlikely you can keep your number
