No audio after 10.6.8 update

Apple has betrayed me. This update has put me out of business. I am a Video Editor, and without audio drivers, I need to buy another computer. I need solution quick. Can somebody from Apple reply?

Hi,

The following worked for me :

Step One: Open Applications.

Step Two: Find Utilities folder and open.

Step Three: Find the Audio MIDI Setup icon and open.

Step Four : Change the volume in the output, it seems to be at the lowest level !

Sorry if I did not myself clear. My output devices disappeared after the update to 10.6.8. I don't have any. The drivers do not load. However, I can see my hardware in About This Mac-->More Info, there it says "Audio (Built in)"

ntel High Definition Audio:

Audio ID: 12

Speaker:

Connection: Internal

Internal Microphone:

Connection: Internal

Line Input:

Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack

Headphone:

Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack

S/PDIF Optical Digital Audio Output:

Connection: Optical

S/PDIF Optical Digital Audio Input:

Connection: Optical

But in the System Preferences-->Sound--> Output, I only see Sounflower, which is a software device installed by Premiere. So, How do I get my Audio hardware back?

I, too, discovered that the internal audio option was missing after running the 10.6.8 update. I happened to check my "About This Mac" and saw that the system was still reporting 10.6.7. I reran the update and the problem seems to have cleared itself. I still have inordinately long boot times, however - on the order of five to six minutes of blue screen before the login screen appears.

Hope this helps.

I had a similar issue. Lost my internal speakers after 10.6.8 update. Tried it all and in the end it was a hardware issue...

The usual reason for this problem is that a microswitch in the headphone socket has got stuck. You can confirm this by looking into the headphone socket - if you can see a red light, then the switch is stuck.

The solution is plug and unplug some headphones into the socket 20-30 times. If that doesn't work, then use a non-conducting probe to reach into the socket and gently release the switch.

Too right. I am a music producer. I don't have any output/input anymore, no matter how much I wiggle the headphone jack etc. I can't believe this is happening.

Apple, I've been a Mac user since the Ninites. This 6 week old Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 is probably the 6th or 7th Mac I bought in my life, and up until this machine, I've certainly been what you call an Apple fan.

But honestly if this output issue continues to bug me - this is a major set back for me. I am speechless this happens. Seems such a little technical bug with massive impact.

It's like the screen going black for anybody working with visuals. No output, no music. This must be a bad joke..??

You might want to check your console log for 'Sound', and see what errors were logged.

I'm running into similar problems with my Late 2009 Mac Mini, after upgrading to Lion. The audio device driver gets errors while attempting to initialize. Found these messages in the console log:

10/17/11 6:54:28.000 AM kernel Sound assertion "0 != result" failed in AppleHDADriver at line 1018 goto Exit

10/17/11 6:54:28.000 AM kernel Sound assertion "!me->fKextResourceLoaded" failed in AppleHDADriver at line 993 goto Exit

Looks like an audio device driver problem to me.
