I set the display resolution in system settings on my macpro 2,1 with the ati 1900 graphics card running snow leopard to max 2560 x 1440 now as you can imagine the dell 30 monitor cant support this so I now cant see anything but lava lamp shades of rolling color....my bad! Help get me out of this in the simplest way possible and you can be my personal hero for at least a week so help me out here.......any efforts will be graciously appreciated. Thanks Mark

Without another monitor, this older article suggests booting into Safe Mode (hold down shift at Startup) which should give you a default setting, then resetting the resolution with:

System preferences > Display

It also lists a "nuclear option", to start in Single-User mode and remove a preference file.

Mac OS X: No video after changing resolutions in Display preferences
