The Motion SU is around 1.2 GB but when I manually installed it I was told it would take up around 700MB on my hard drive.
Is this because I have FCS 3 installed and only 700MB of the download is new material?

in Finder, my version of M5, incl. all add-ons Apple provides, it's 2.08GBs in size ...-
It's simple Karsten, well sort of!
The actual application is 2.08GB but when you have installed it you will find that Software Update will allow you to download 1.2GB of extra content, which will probably expand in your computer to double that amount.
This extra content may be stored in HD>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Studio>Motion.
This folder (Motion) has about 8GB of content from FCS 3.
When I downloaded the SU I quickly whipped the downloaded file out of HD>Library>Updates to stop it from automatically being installed and the .dmg trashed.
I then installed it the usual manual way and it told me that some 700MB would be installed.
I don't know whether this material went into the original Motion contents folder or whether it is stored somewhere else.

the program Motion5 solo is 1.4MB ... sort of.
any content, you found for M4 in the AppSupport-Folder is in MY installation INSIDE the Motion5.app - just cmd-click, Show Package Content, ...-
and it's 2.08GBs AFTER/including the extras ...-- here.

I have just checked my figures and the original Motion 5 was 2.08GB when it was installed.
After downloading and installing the 1.2GB Software Update, the Motion 5 app is still 2.08GB.
It has not altered by so much as 1 byte.
The extra content has been stored elsewhere as is done with all previous FCS apps.
My "problem" is twofold.
Exactly where and as I can't be certain what I had in Motion 4, what is new?
P.S. I wonder what OCD is?
I have received information that the Motion 5 additional media is probably stored here:-

The extra Decode, Skyline and Vine content are here.
I am wondering if because I deleted the Final Cut Pro Trial after purchased the full version if that is why I cannot find Decode and Vine composiitons in the location above. I am trying to reinstall FCP to see if that helps. I am starting to get extremely frustrated, I just want to see what I paid for.
Look in Mac HD>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Pro>Templates>Compositions . . . and make sure you are looking in the Mac HD Library and not the Users Library.
Ian thank you for your reply. This is a screen shot from my Macintosh HD/Library Folder. There is no Final Cut Pro. I think it may have something to do with downloading the trial of FCP prior to the payed version. I have also tried re downloading FCP as well as going to Motion and FCP and selecting download additional content, but it doesnt find anything in the app store.

Ian here is a better screen shot to assure you I did select the Mac HD library.
Sometime this morning the App store decided I had an update available for additional content for FCP and Motion. I am guessing it wanted to make sure my credit card went through or something? But 15 hours later its avaible! Cool cant wait to see what it is.
I can't remember the details now but I seem to recollect that the additional media for FCP X and Motion was available as a separate Software Update download that only worked when you operated Software Update.
It may be that your Mac is set to search for new software on a daily basis, hence receiving it the next day.
If you had manually opened Software Update the moment you installed the apps, you might have got it immediately.
