Cannot install on Windows 7 64-bit

Trying to install iTunes onto my computer and having some problems. It was previously installed on my external HD, which recently was broken. Removed all traces of iTunes and Apple software etc. from my PC and tried a fresh install. Also used the Windows Installer cleanup to make sure all items were gone. restarted my PC.

Downloaded 64-bit version of the installer with no trouble and during installation I get the following problems...

Installer rolls back and tries again.

Installer rolls back then tries again and apparently completes succesfully, but after install the when trying to open iTunes the following errors occur:

iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.

Error 7 (Windows error127)

I can not figure out what the problem is. No other problems going on with any programs, iTunes! Any ideas?

These ones are tricky. But the following instructions are worth a try.

First do a complete uninstall of iTunes and related components (but don't reinstall just yet), as per the following document:

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

a. Launch regedit (Start >> Search Programs and Files >> type Regedit and open the regedit that comes up.)

b. Access the following Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData \S-1-5-18\Components

c. Perform the following actions

i. Right Click on Components Folder

ii. Select Permissions

iii. Select Full Control and Read Permissions options

iv. Select Advanced Button

v. Select Owner Tab

vi. Select to Change Owner to the Administrators

vii. Check the option “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects”

viii. Select OK when prompted that it may not change all.

ix. Select Apply

x. Select Apply again

xi. Exit the Registry Editor

Now try reinstalling iTunes again. Does it go in properly this time?

Thank you for posting this fix. I have been at it for quite some time and this finally resolved the installation issue.

The thing is, although I was able to finally install iTunes on my 64bit W7, the reason I had uninstalled it to begin with and then had the problems installing was because I am having iTunes issues.

The program stops working whenever I try to add music or transfer purchases to my iPhone 4. There's just a Windows error that pops up saying iTunes stopped working and then it shuts down. I've searched the communities all over and tried all kinds of fixes and nothing work. Also, trying to post my own question and no replies. HELP!
