Downloading a DVD into iMovie or iphoto

I've been looking into the same thing.

I have Ripit, but the settings I've tried don't seem to work well with iMovie, as I can see iMovie is re-encoding the movies on import.

I've messed with iSkysoft's dvd ripper and it has a setting to export to iMovie, which I tried in the demo and it seemed to import much faster (only the thumbnails needed to be built)

It's a bit more expensive than the other suggestion, but possibly a bit easier too.

DVDxDV will do this and it's really easy. It doesn't require any plugins. You can get a trial version at http://www.dvdxdv.com.
