Graphic window explosion after install. Please help.

Hi,

I couldn't find anything else here on the discussion boards about my problem. I really didn't even know what words to search for.

SO, I just installed Tiger to my old Dual 533 MHz G4/768 MB SDRAM via target disc mode with my Powerbook. (Because of the lack of a DVD drive) Everything was seemingly fine for about 5 mintues until I installed that first Software Update. Now, after it boots up, the windows go haywire and start trailing and doubling and breaking up. My monitor looks like a huge mess of broken windows! The mouse and keyboard seem to work fine. In fact, I can even kind of "erase" the faulty broken images by dragging any of my Desktop icons around the Desktop space. (Like some sort of bitmapped drawing program.) Does anyone know whats going on? I also ran Disk Utility and it "corrected" a bunch of things but didn't fix the problem.

Is this old G4 just not able to handle Tiger? Some sort of graphic card incompatibility? I am clueless. Please help.

15" Powerbook Mac OS X (10.4.4) 1.67 GHz PowerPC G4, 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM

Now, upon further inspection. If I go to Systems Preferences/Displays and change my display resolution from 1024x768 to 832x624, it fixes the problem. Then I change it back to 1024x768 and it still works fine. No crazy windows. BUT once I restart, the same problem happens all over again.

BTW, the monitor is a KDS Rad-5x, if that makes any difference.

How to Zap PRAM

Zapping PRAM is simple, just reboot your Mac and hold down "Command(the Apple key)+Option(the Alt key) PR" while it is booting, when you hear the startup sound for the seond time the operation is complete, and you can release the key combination. Now just let your Mac boot as normal.
