Look up 'TextMe' in the Apps Store.

Texfree is another free messaging App you can download from the App Store. I've used it with great success for a long time.

I use the gmail chat within my gmail account at my work. For the ipad, is there an app or do you have to open gmail in safari and do it that way? If so, one of the apps would seem to be 'easier' to get to for a quick text. I have a new ipad and was really missing this ability from my iphone.

Can anyone who uses one of the free ones tell me if they have a lot of ads, etc? I like to use the free ones when they work and I don't mind paying a developer for one that is really good and makes the usage easier than having to click through closing ad screens, etc.

Texfree does have adds, but they don't seem very intrusive to me......

I am not sure if there is both a texfree and a textfree app, I'll check that out. I did download textfree and found I had to choose a phone number. I think it could be confusing for my family/friends who receive a text from me when they show coming from different numbers. Is there any app that will use the cell ph number I already have?

If there is more info about this elsewhere, a link is also appreciated. I find that gleaning much info from the app itself and sometimes the apps website is not so easy.

It's true that Textfree assigns a telephone number. I don't know if there is another app that permits you to use your existing cell phone number. I just sent an email out to my contacts letting them know that when I text from my iPad, they will see a text coming from the telephone number I was given. Nobody seemed to have an issue with it.

I am assuming that if you send a text message from your ipad using the textfree app, that you can only see and follow the text thread from your ipad and not on your iphone as well? I ask thinking I would send a text and then leave the house with my iphone, and want to follow or track the reply when I am not at my ipad. I don't know if you have an iphone too, but if you do, is my assumption correct?
