DVD studio pro 4 crashes when I try to open a project file. Just upgraded to snow leopard.

Question

Hey guys, I am working with DVD studio pro 4 and it keeps crashing on me. It crashes when I try to open a project file through the top menu, it crashes when I click the "import" button on the assets tab, and it also crashes when I try to save a project file. I am using a legitimate copy and I have tried reinstalling it, repairing disc permissions, and updating it. Oh and also one big thing, I just recently upgraded to snow leopard.Any fixes for this? Hi there. Have you tried deleting the prefa file for DVDSP? that is likely you problem with these kind of symptoms.Pi

Hello Pi,I tried deleting that file and it didn&#x27;t help. I also tried deleting the files in the "Receipts" folder then doing a fresh reinstall. It is still crashing. I can import files by dragging them into the asset window. It seems that is crashed whenever it is trying to access finder. Any other ideas?

I also just tried to use compressor, and the same thing is happening. Final cut seems to be uneffected. Any other ideas? Thanks guys!

Delete the 6.1 ProKit.framework folder located in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks.2. Download and install ProKit 5.0 from here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/ProKit_5_0_for_Leopard__Mac_OS_X_10_5_3. Thanks for these posts everyone. I just had a similar problem this week after upgrading to Snow Leopard.The ProKit fix fixed it.(DVD SP 4.2.2. would open, but wouldn&#x27;t  "save as". Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1 would open but wouldn&#x27;t "save" or "save as"I&#x27;d tried FCS Remover &amp; reinstalled Studio from my discs (a couple of times). Repaired permissions loads of times. Trashed preferences many times. All the usual things that people say. Lord ImmortallixI did everything just like it was written too and for some reason it wouldn&#x27;t work for me either at first.  I had to install the 5.0 on a portable hard drive.  Then I compressed the original folders and deleted them (not the .zip ones of course).  Once you have deleted the ProKit.Framework folder from your library, drag the 5.0 folder from your portable hard drive into the privateframeworks folder (you will need to your system password to authenticate any adding and deleting from this folder).  Then, you should be able to download the 5.1 update with no problem.   This will allow you to skip the entire Terminal process which can be quite dangerous if the wrong thing is typed in.To all the other people up top...THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I was freaking out.  I had purchased Snow Leopard when it first came out and never installed it.  I just installed it last week and then all of these problems started.  You guys completely saved me with the tips....thanks!

I&#x27;ve been working on this for a while now and found this discussion - Rob-VideoPro suggestion helped as in I couldn&#x27;t install the 5.0 file because it said there was alreay one on my drive even after I deleted it, so I just installed on a external and replaced the file. All works great now. Thanks to all!

Much simpler: Control-Click on the ProRuntime.pgk and on Show Package ContentsIn the folder Contents you find Archive.pax.gz.Copy that somewhere (doesn&#x27;t matter where) and double-click to dearchive.  You get a folder Archive. In there you go to the folder System &gt; Library &gt; PrivateFrameworks &gt; ProKit.frameworkNow you copy this folder ProKit.framework to your Startup disk:MacHD (or so) &gt; Library &gt; Private Frameworks after trashing the prokit folder in Place (You do have a zipped copy of it on your DeskTop ???😎 ) - you need your admin password!The update to Runtime 5.1 works as usual.

Exactly the same problem!I&#x27;m running Snow-Leopard. Upon Save-As using DVD Studio Pro 4, it just crashes with rather a large amount of crash data.Had sucess in resolving this issue using the above methods.ProKit seems to be the problem, especially version 7.0 or newer.I archived the System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BrowserKit.framework and ProKit.framework folders, deleting the folders but keeping the archive just in case.Then, downloading the ProKit 5.0 as the link provided above, installing it onto another drive or un-archiving it using Detlef&#x27;s method.Then drag and drop this contents into the home System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ folder and finally installing the ProKit 5.1 update.Funnily enough, the original folders when I found them are additionally named ProKit(Old) and ProKit(SnowLeopard), so I wonder if Apple was aware of this problem when they brought out Snow Leopard? Interesting. Perhaps they knew the new ProKit didn&#x27;t work with SL, so included the old ProKit&#x27;s in case of this problem.Simon

The Prokit fix solved my problem!!! I was having the exact same DVD Studio Pro and Compressor issues.  Also, I was having export issues with Apeture.  Nothing would work.  About to chuck my computer off the bridge and never use an Apple product again, I found salvation here.  Thank you Digital Rebellion and the posts on here.  I followed the instructions exactly, except the Prokit.framework folder wouldn&#x27;t delete from my Private Frameworks file unless I Control+click "move to trash."  That seemed to work.  I downloaded Prokit 5.0 and 5.1 and voila!  My programs work properly again.

This worked great for me as well! My rundown.I am currently on Studio 3 and running Snow Leopard. This is how I got it to workI first downloaded the 2 Prokit files as reccomended. links below.ProKit 5.0 -  http://support.apple.com/downloads/ProKit_5_0_for_Leopard__Mac_OS_X_10_5_ProKit 5.1 (You will first need to install 5.0 before running this)  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1008I then went to Macintosh HD/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks I noticed that there were two ProKit.framework folders in this location. they were ProKit.framework and ProKit(SnowLeopard).framework The only one I deleted was the ProKit.framework.Note: if you are having trouble completely emptying your trash download this and it will make sure to empty everything in your trash. http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/8214/trash-it!I then copied the previouly downloaded ProRuntime.dmg to a thumb drive so I could extract the info. Once the package was done extracting it gave me a folder on my thumb drive called system once you get to the bottom of the sysem folder you will see two folders one called BrowserKit.framework and the other ProKit.framework. From here I copied only the ProKit.framework folder over to the Macintosh HD/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks Folder. Once this was moved I ran the ProKitUpdate5.1.dmg from my desktop and all was rignt in the world. Hope this helped!
